My Reading Taste

What do I read?

I read elaborate love letters, addressed to worlds afar, written in golden ink, and signed by another being. I read what's hidden in the crevices of human imagination, and the crooks of reality.

I read about circuses, enchantment and folklore. I read about murder, insanity and suicide.

I read broken books mended by broken people, and I read ageless tales of generations far gone.

I read books that fit the heart-shaped keyhole of my mind. Tales that inspire and exhale originality.

I read tales of heroes and heroines, and stories which include neither. I read words of gritty stardust, written with the ink of a thousand years of influence. And I read the books I wish I'd written.

What do I read? I read everything.

Do you, like me, have an undefinable reading taste? Are you all for reading everything? Or is there one genre you love?

  1. This post is beautiful.
I have a reading taste that seems to vary from year to year,, but I've always loved Contemporary as I feel like it can cover so many bases. and I'll happily give a lot of things a go, but for me, I find it really difficult to immerse myself in Historical Fiction and Fantasy

    1. Thank you Holly!

Whilst I'll give anything a go, and I don't have specific genres, I agree that it can be pretty difficult to get into historical fiction a lot of the time! Most books in that genre are very slow, given they spend so much time setting the scene.

  2. Aw, love this post!
I read wide variety of books. I have couple of specific topics I try to avoid (incest, M/M erotica, suicide) but otherwise I am open to all genres and topics. I can't imagine being stuck in one specific genre for too long.

    1. Thank you! And me neither – I'd rather have freedom to switch from genre to genre, than to be fixed in one field.

    1. Same! It's so much more freeing to embrace every genre.

  4. I read everything that catches my fancy, but if I'm being honest most of the books I love are fantasy and fairytales & retellings. I just have a really soft spot for magic, worlds that don't exist and mythical creatures <3

    1. I read everything but, that said, I'll always have a soft spot for fantasy! It was the genre that made me fall in love with reading in the first place. :')

  5. Great post, Ruby. Recently I really have been finding myself wanting to read anything and everything. It's a new feeling for me - and slightly scary because I know there's no way on earth I'll be able to get on to all the books my wandering mind wants to absorb in one lifetime.

But I'll certainly try my hardest.

    1. I know exactly what you mean! Ah, there are just so many books and such a variety of stories, I don't want to admit to myself that I'll never be able to read them all!

  6. I really love this post; it's quite different than any that I've seen before. I used to only really read science fiction, though lately I've been branching out and reading contemporaries and even some adult novels, which I never really had any interest in reading at all.

    1. Thank you, that's such a lovely and encouraging thing to hear! It's always great to branch out (you may discover a new favourite author). :)

  7. I love this post! I read all things, too. There was a period of time when I was clearing out my bookshelves so that I only had books I knew I'd read again and I'd take the books I wasn't sure about to a used bookstore. They loved it when I'd come in because I'd bring in all kinds of different books.

    1. Thanks! I really need to do that too. I have such a varied collection of the books that, if I were to take them to my local charity shop, I'm sure there would be something for everyone haha.

  8. I think that's awesome that you're open to read anything! I'm actually a picky and moody reader so I'm scared to venture out into other genres I have not yet tried. I think as of now I'm sticking with young adult, classics, and graphic novels since those are my reading comfort zone.
